Our tweed jackets come in three main shapes: short and collarless, straight with a high neck, and closer to a classic blazer. Some are wool, some cotton. Most can be worn two ways, on their own or with the skirt cut from the same tweed.

How to Choose a Tweed Jacket

Cropped, Straight or Tailored

Start with length. A cropped jacket stops at the waist, so it looks right with a high-waisted skirt or trousers and a bit off over low-rise jeans. Want something that covers the hips? Choose a straight cut; it’s also the easier shape to throw over a sweater. The Leontine is a good example: straight body, high neck, buttons all the way down, and faux pockets that keep the front flat. Lapels and a firmer shoulder move a jacket into blazer territory, which suits a stricter office.

Wool or Cotton Tweed

This decides when you’ll actually wear it. Wool tweed is warmer and keeps its shape, so it’s the one for October through March. Cotton tweed is lighter and gets more use in spring and in overheated offices. Every product page lists the exact fabric and lining, and our fabrics page goes into more detail.

Finding Your Fit

Look at the shoulders first: the seam should land on the edge of your shoulder, not past it. Sleeves should reach your wrist bone. Planning to wear a chunky knit underneath? Check the bust measurement in the size guide and go up a size if it’s close. For reference, the model on the Leontine page is 175 cm, or 5’9”, and wears an XS.

How to Style a Tweed Jacket

For the Office

Tailored trousers, a silk or cotton blouse, loafers. That’s the whole formula, and it works because the tweed already has plenty going on. Cream and navy are the easiest to wear twice in one week without anyone noticing. More ideas in our office outfits.

With Denim on the Weekend

This is where the brighter tweeds earn their place. Put a pink or metallic jacket over straight or wide-leg jeans with a white tee or a fine knit. Add ballet flats or sneakers and you’re done. Keep everything else plain.

As a Matching Set

For a wedding or a dinner, wear the jacket with its matching skirt. There’s nothing to coordinate, because the two pieces are cut from the same tweed. A camisole or thin knit underneath and small earrings are enough. See our tweed jacket and skirt sets or more wedding guest outfits.

Are tweed jackets still in style?

Yes. The collarless tweed jacket has been around since the 1950s and has never really gone away. What's changed is how people wear it. Today it goes over jeans and flats as often as it's worn with a matching skirt, which makes it far more useful than a jacket saved for special occasions.

What's the difference between a tweed jacket and a tweed blazer?

Mostly the collar. A blazer has lapels and a more structured shoulder. A tweed jacket is usually collarless or high-necked, a little boxier, and buttoned straight down the front. Both work at the office. The collarless version is softer and sits more naturally over dresses.

What do you wear with a tweed jacket?

For work, wear it with tailored trousers and a blouse. On weekends, try jeans and a fine knit. For events, add the matching skirt from a tweed set. One rule worth keeping: if the jacket is cropped, pair it with something high-waisted so the outfit doesn't look cut in half.

Can you wear a tweed jacket in spring and summer?

It depends on the fabric. Cotton tweed works on mild spring and early-summer days; wool tweed is better for autumn and winter. When it's warm, wear the jacket open over a camisole. Every product page lists the fabric, so check before you order.

How should a tweed jacket fit?

Aim for the shoulder seam on the edge of your shoulder, sleeves at the wrist bone, and enough room to button it over a thin layer. If you're between sizes, compare your bust measurement with our size guide. Each product page also lists the model's height and size.
